Celebration Details

On campus (or hosted by a campus organization)?:

Come celebrate the legacy of the Loving v. Virginia (1967) US Supreme Court case, a landmark decision that ruled all anti-miscegenation statutes unconstitutional. Because of Loving v. Virginia, all interracial marriages are recognized in every state!

A FREE catered dinner from Amanouz will be served at 6:15PM in the Mwangi Cultural Center, located on the first floor of the Davis Center. Joining us will be Ken Tanabe, leader of the Loving Day project.

During dinner, test your knowledge of mixed heritage history and culture with MIXED HERITAGE JEOPARDY! Categories will include: the Loving v. Virginia case, celebrities/pop culture/media, transnational adoption, and MISC/Unity Org history. Compete by yourself or with a team of friends for a special prize.

Following dinner, stick around for a screening of Jeff Chiba Stearns' animated film, "One Big Hapa Family," which chronicles the experience of mixed heritage Japanese-Canadians through the lens of the filmmaker's family. We'll kick off the screening around 8:45-9:00PM!

MISC kindly requests that you RSVP to our dinner so that we know an estimated head count! If you RSVP to this event, we'll mark you on our list -- anyone who RSVPs will be guaranteed a plate of food!

We are excited for our Loving Day event, which precedes our Saturday, April 14 all-day symposium, How To Be An Ally. Please RSVP and find more information about the symposium here: https://www.facebook.com/events/235628056528821/
