When and Where is the Celebration?
UVM Program Board, UVM Staff Council, the Dudley H. Davis Student Center and Loving Day VT are excited to kick off another year of Live on the Lawn, UVM’s free, once a month, lunch-time concert series celebrating summer with Live on the Lawn: Loving Day Edition featuring renowned artist Myra Flynn.
Grab your picnic blanket and join the UVM community at the Davis Center Outdoor Stage (rain location: Brennan’s Pub), spending your lunch break enjoying the summer weather, good company, and some great local music (and maybe even a few prizes)! Food will be available to purchase courtesy of UVM Dining.
This edition of Live on the Lawn celebrates Loving Day, an annual celebration that acknowledges the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision on Loving v. Virginia, which legalized interracial marriage and endeavors to fight prejudice and build multicultural community. Loving Day Vermont organizes annual gatherings that bring together interracial, multiracial, and multicultural couples, individuals and families from across the state, along with others who want to celebrate the right to love whoever we love. All are welcome to join us!
For questions or accommodations, please contact the UVM Program Board at email@example.com.
ABOUT MYRA FLYNN
Singer/songwriter Myra Flynn spends her career embracing dichotomy. Half Irish and half African American, her original indie/soul songs blend soulful vocals with a lyrical delivery that doesn’t let one get too comfortable. As the New England Deli Magazine puts it, “Her vocal influences have as much in common with Ani Difranco and Shawn Colvin as they do with Rihanna and Jill Scott.”
Flynn spent her Vermont childhood clad in leopard print and platform shoes, singing and dancing atop anything that looked remotely like a stage. These days, not much has changed. She has since shared stages with: Ivan Neville (Dumpstaphunk), Mike Gordon (Phish), Gabrielle Gordon (Natalie Merchant), Sonya Kitchell, Rayvon, Res, Alexa Ray Joel, Slick Rick, Anais Mitchell and Lee “Scratch” Perry.
Currently, Myra Flynn lives a bi-coastal life, still holding onto her roots in Vermont half of her year while also working and living part-time in Los Angeles under the guidance of Swift Street Management Team. She has created a jewelry line made from recycled piano parts and recently partnered with Shelburne Vineyard in Vermont to create a namesake wine: FLYNN. She has toured the United States countless times as well as: Wales, London, Ireland and most frequently, Australia. Her motto regarding next steps and fame tends to be: “If you’re doing it, you’ve already made it.”
